Justin Sandercoe is a London based guitarist, songwriter, performer, producer and educator who grew up in Tasmania (an island off the South East coast of Australia) but has been based in West London since 1996.

As well as teaching many thousands of students in a 'virtual' world, Justin has taught 'in the flesh' at The Guitar Institute (the ICMP) and many hundreds of private students over nearly 20 years, teaching all ages and abilities and many styles. He has also taught celebrity students including Katie Melua and Cathy Dennis.

Songwriting and production has always been a principle interest and his debut full length album Small Town Eyes was released on Feb 28th 2010. It is vocal based, acoustic guitar song driven pop folk, not a guitar hero album. The follow up is underway and IS a guitar album :) with instrumental songs in many styles with some guest singers - anticipated release in late 2012. His recording studio "Broken Arrow" is located in Acton, West London but he lives in tranquil Kew, Surrey.

justinguitar.com
Justin Sandercoe

Justinguitar.com went first live in July 2003 as a small web site offering a few lessons as a sample to promote private lessons. It grew steadily over it's first few years, with Justin often adding content to keep himself occupied while on tour, much of it done on a laptop in hotel rooms around the globe.

After seeing the popularity of YouTube Justin began making instructional guitar videos in December 2006, initially filmed and edited by his friend Jedi. In September 2011 his YouTube instructional videos have been watched over 100,000,000 (yep that's 100 million) times and the web site receives well over 20,000 unique visitors a day!

It has received many accolades in both the traditional press and new media as well as radio and tv shows. By keeping quality guitar instruction free for those that cannot afford or get to private lessons has given the site a huge user base right around the world. Helping the poor, the shy and those just too busy to make regular lessons.

The approach is patient. Learn one thing well and be able to use it before you learn more. The method works, and many hundreds of thousands of people around the world have benefited from the lessons on the site.

The Independent newspaper said that he is "One of the most influential guitar teachers in history".

After over 15 years of writing songs, Justin released his debut full length album on the 28th February 2010. It contains 13 tracks which include two instrumental guitar songs and 11 vocal pop folk tracks that draw comparisons to Neil Young, Crowded House and Wilco.

A Limited Edition version was released in December 2009 - only 2009 copies were released - each individually signed and numbered by Justin and came with a guitar pick.

You can hear samples, buy the download on iTunes or the CD in the Store.

Guitar Instruction Books, CDs and DVDs

In 2007 Justin started Chocolate Cake Productions with friend Jed "Jedi" Wardley to release his instructional DVDs. There are currently nine DVDs available on the web site, with many more planned for release. The Solo Blues Guitar series is extremely popular with many students posting their performances on YouTube.

After partnering with sheet music giant Music Sales, The Justinguitar Beginners Songbook was released in July 2011. It sold faster that they could be printed, and over 5000 copies were sold in the first 7 weeks! Nearly 20,000 copies sold as of June 2012!

The Justinguitar Beginners Guitar Course is also out and selling great and another 5 songbooks are in the pipeline!

Ebook Practical Music Theory has proven to be extremely popular and Chord Construction Guide is the perfect follow up. Understanding Rhythmic Notation was co-written with drum guru Justin Scott.

Really Useful Blues Solos (a book and CD set) was released in May 2007 and is a unique way of learning to play blues guitar using the traditional 'by ear' approach.

Outside Music

When not making, playing or teaching music my hobbies include Wing Tsun Kung Fu (@UKKFF), rock climbing, running, traveling to exotic places, tattoos, mountain biking, chess, reading and politics.

I love my motorcycle, a BMW R1200GS, and one day I'd love to "do a Ewan and Charlie" and drive across Africa, but don't have the skills or time!

I was really into skydiving (my home club was Skydive Weston) but I stopped in 2008 and replaced it with scuba diving.

I have a rather unhealthy obsession with chocolate and order new and interesting flavours from every corner of the globe.
