Hi Justin,

Thanks for all of the FAB lessons!  What a great thing... making the world better through music!

I gotta say... I'm prayin' that in your next batch-o-lessons that you'll get around to 'Reading Notation' and 'Reading Rhythm'.

I play with a metronome and I can keep time just fine... but reading the rhythm correctly from tied notes is throwing me... syncopation has got me going looney trying to read it correctly!

I dig your teaching method... you speak to me!  So PLEASE, lay these lessons on my brain!

Thanks again for everything.
MarkB

I am maybe asking for the impossible, but as someone who as just started ( 3 months ago) learning to play guitar I would really appreciate some lessons on reading notation.  Ideally this would include some beginners exercises and video on:
1. identifying notes on the stave and associating them with notes on the strings, with some practice routines
2. Identifying key signatures and chords in musical notation

Hi
I would suggest buying a beginners classical guitar book, although there are thousands of games on the internet about learning to read music.
Hope that helps,
A

Hi MarkB and Magernus
Just as a follow up to your posts, I came across the following external set of lessons on standard notation (reading notation, matching notes in standard notation to the guitar notes and time).  The good thing about it is the relationship between the standard notation and the strings/notes on the guitar and the practice exercises. External link: http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/forum/fretsources-lessons/9731-standard-music-notation/
I hope no one minds me posting an external link, but it seems to fill a gap in Justin's lessons  Huh.
The full list of contents is
Lesson 1 - The music staff
Lesson 2 - First string notes E, F & G + timing (4/4 time signature)
Lesson 3 - Second string notes B, C & D + 3/4 & 2/4 time signatures
Lesson 4 - Third string notes G & A + repeat signs
Lesson 5 - Eighth notes
Lesson 6 - Dotted notes + Fourth string notes D, E & F
Lesson 7 - Fifth string notes A, B & C + rests and pick up notes
Lesson 8 - Sixth string notes E, F & G
Lesson 9 - Sharps, flats and naturals
Lesson 10 - Ties, slurs + three eight time
Lesson 11 - Chords
Lesson 12 - Key signatures
Lesson 13 - The second position, key of 2 sharps
Lesson 14 - Shorter note lengths, triplets and staccato
Lesson 15 - Major scales E to Eb in higher positions (I - X)
NOTATION PITCH TRAINER - Flash tool

bluepingu34 - thanks for your suggestion about a beginners classical guitar book - I might have a look in the local music shops.
Regards

I'm really looking forward to this lesson.  You've convinced me that I need to learn how to transcribe songs, so I guess it would be helpful to know how to notate rhythm correctly.
