Hey Justin wassup , when doing the pattern studies, for example when playing in thirds or forths, do you use different fingerings? Or in other words do you adjust the fingering to the different patterns, with things like rolling or shifting up or down a fret earlier or later? Thanks!

looks like the user "guitarmilo" wanted to reply but accidentally reported the thread, statis trhis:

I usually practice the suggested patter studies (3rds & 4ths) daily, but struggle with incorporating them when I practice improvising. Any suggestions on how to put these studies to use? Thanks.

Hey Justin. Thanks for the site and all the great free lessons, I was wondering if I should continue the strict alternate picking routine used in the scale picking exercise for all of the melodic exercises too. Should I continue alternate picking up, down, up down, up, down, etc... even when I'm hitting random notes in the scale and doing thirds?

Can those patterns be used to practice pentatonics too? Does someone do that?

@ Pelleverde - yes - they sound very cool - try it!
@ Loverrockchild - Yes - stick to alternate picking
@ Guitarmilo - You need to change the fingering for some of these. That is part of the challenge, to work out good fingerings for them!

When practicing the patters with minor pentatonic scales what do you do for intervallic patterns with 3rds, 4ths, and 5ths? It's not just 3, 4, or 5 notes down the scale like with the major or natural minor scales to get the 3rd, 4th, or 5th then, or is that ok? Thanks, Brian

When I play the melodic pattern, should I use the same fingering of the scale or that of I find more handy? ( if I use my index finger to press the note in the scale, can I use the middle finger to press the same note when i play the melodic pattern? or should i stick with the same finger?)

I'm working on the melodic patterns but finding some of them harder than others so my speed with each is different. Should I worry about that? Should I practice one pattern until it gets good and then move on,or attempt a bit at each everyday trying to keep my ability to play them all consistent?
