I just started out on this one this week. Many thanks, Justin, it is a beautiful arrangement you have written. As you say in the video, the first eight bars come quickly enough, which is encouraging and helps me get motivated to learn the rest. Whenever I set out to learn what I think of as a simple tune I find there are so many subtleties and depths of feeling that can be expressed on the guitar within that song, and so it is with this one.
Not many questions yet, those may come later, but the video is very clear. Only two things.
1. For the G chord I put my 2nd finger down on the B note, 2nd fret of the A string. This is just from habit when I am used to making a G chord in a similar way (eg for Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" which was also a very clear and enjoyable lesson). You say to mute the A string with your 3rd finger. Is this a big deal and should I try to change to muting?
I just checked out the Fast Car video again and I see you don't fret the B note on that G chord either, so I got it wrong on both songs now. Does it matter? I don't want to get into bad habits.
2. Is anyone else playing this one? I think I started at a good time. If I don't learn it all by next Hogmanay then I will aim for Burn's Night.
