I couldn't see a review for this DVD so here goes:
I've been at this guitar lark for a little while now and consider myself alright but I still benefitted hugely from this DVD.
It has the trademark Justin approach of going step by step emphasising the need for getting it right before moving on, yet not being patronising.  How hard can it be I here you cry, you just strum up and down.  If that's what you think watch this DVD and see yourself improve.
I highly recommend this DVD for beginners and intermediates alike, and just for good measure it is the best produced of Justin's DVDs that I've bought.  Buy it, you won't be dissappointed and you'll be supporting a great site and a great bloke.

I thought I should add my two cents in. This was my first purchase of one of Justin's products. The paypal thing worked great and I received the dvd in just a couple of days. (lots of cool U.K. stamps!).

I'm another sort of intermediate guitarist and despite knowing a lot of chords and a decent knowledge of scales, my rhythm/strumming has always been a sort of hit or miss thing. I either get it totally or not at all.
This DVD really does take you through the basics and gives you some structure to base your approach to any song on. I'm still working with the material, but it already has bolstered my confidence.

Great course for a beginner or a more advanced player who feels they need work in this area.

Hi everyone,

My first time on here and wanted to chip in.

I got the DVD a couple of days ago. Ive been playing on and off for about 8 months and I could never get my head around Rhythm guitar, this has helped me loads already and given me the motivation to keep going with the guitar.

Thanks Justin, great product and great site keep at it.

Like Rx40user I received the DVD a week after I ordered it (in the US).

The information contained on the DVD is explained very simply, especially things like the chuck strum.

Great stuff!  Cool

My first post to this forum.

I got my RUST DVD here in Aus about 5 days after it was posted.

My first impression was that I had bought something that I had already covered (I guess I am getting into the Intermediate stage of guitar playing now). I decided to go along with it and after 30 minutes realised I was getting heaps from it.
Like:
  • I went back and polished up the basics - great revision tool
    Justin's tips are really great
  • By the time I got to exercise 15 I could hear an improvement in my strumming
  • Session 16 to 20 were all completely new to me, I'm going to be spending a lot more time on those

The only annoyance was some interference on my DVD - did someone leave their mobile phone on in the studio?

I didn't know where to place a review of this DVD that I purchased from justinguitar.com, so here are my thoughts.  This is in regard to the VERY USEFUL STRUMMING TECHNIQUES DVD.  I have been playing for several years, since I was a kid in church.  Good enough to play for people, transcribe rock & popular music, I do read music very well, could definitely hold my own.  *BUT* I was always confused about strumming patterns and techniques. ??  How do all the great guitarists come up with these strumming patterns?  There were so many questions I had yet, there literally seems to be NO. PLACE. to find this sort of information, even with the PLETHORA of guitar-knowledge resources out nowadays.  I did DIG for the information online, in books, local library, music stores, etc.  But this was the first place I had ever seen any information at all regarding STRUMMING.  So I jumped at chance to buy the DVD.  I will be honest and say it was the best decision I ever made in regard to my playing!!!  I actually consider it a buried treasure that I have finally unearthed which contains SOLID GOLD.  Not only has it taught me 20 different strumming patterns (only 3 of which I actually already knew), but there's sooo much more.  I discovered 16th note strumming which, before, was not even something I dreamed of doing, because I didn't really know what it was or how to use it, though I do read music and certainly know exactly what a sixteenth note is.  It turns out that 16th note strumming is something I would have been using a long time ago, had I known how, as I love the sound of it and its many possibilities!  After finding this information, I can finally say that I like (love? hmm, I'll be modest  Roll Eyes) my playing now.  I'm so happy with myself  Grin  And here is the best part, which I've been saving for last:  the DVD teaches you how to MAKE UP your OWN patterns.  And it's easy! ... Yet, I'd never have known about it if not for this site.  I have used literally millions of other resources, books, dvds, etc., in my playing career, but never was I presented with the benefit of this information before, and I'm thinking now that it's because this is really the *SECRET* to getting good at guitar; as well as writing your own tunes.  I honestly think that's why no one gives this information away.  P.S.  If I sound like I'm "gushing," it's only because I'm so grateful to finally have the benefit of the one piece of information that has taken me to that one level higher I'd been trying to achieve, which is: writing my own music.  Justin ... just ... thanks.  A cajillion times, thanks!!  I also purchased the SOLO BLUES GUITAR DVD and I will be checking it out next.

Hi GB69.
You are not the only gusher on this site. I have been spouting for a while myself.
I was a little aprehensive after the 1st lesson on the DVD. 'Heck, anyone knows that!'
This was one of the better investments that I have ever made. For less than price of 20' of a tutor's time and knowlege you get such a solid foundation for strumming that will last a lifetime.
I'm glad that you were rewarded as much as I.

Hi

Just wanted to add a quick review. I have been playing for nearly two years but practice incnsistently Roll Eyes and as such am somewhere between begnner and intermediate in my playing.

Although I knew a few strumming patterns I lways felt my rhythm playing was a bit clumsy so I put in my order. I got my DVD on Tuesday and spent my evening practicing along. As I got through the first two sections I was thinking "I already know most of this"  but I often caught myself speeding up and as such out was completely out of time with Justin. So I went back to basics with my timing (foot tapping/headnodding) and soon got into a much better rhythm.

I had a quick scan through the next lessons and started rea, lsing how much this DVD can offer. The foundations that this DVD lays are indespensible for the beginner and rewarding for an intermediate player needing to sharpen their rhythm skills.

While the techniques shown to add variety and spice to your playing are great and add so much possibility. I am looking forward to trying to master them.

Another top notch production Cheers Justin and Jedi, keep up the good work.
