I know this sounds very very very silly but if a play the cords you mentioned for the SSR it don't sound at all! I have a nylon string guitar and the cords which are sounding well are; 1 AM 2 EM 3 DM 4 A 5 D. I think I will be totally wrong but again if I play along it just sounds not nice and yes I checked my guitar with my Korg!

be sure to check that all strings that should be ringing are, and those which shounldnt are not. For example, playing all strings on a D will not sound good at all, and wont sound like the recordings. Go back to the basic pick/strum/pick technique shown earilier in Justins course to make sure you have the chords right, and then try again. I have to add- i never got into transcribing songs, because every time i tried i just felt like i was diving headfirst into the deep end, these JUSTIN exercises are brilliant for me, bitesize chunks, but still the real deal. I also knew a lot more than i thought i did.

I didn't know quite where to put this but you mention Johnny B Goode in easy songs for the first level of the new beginners course and I just want to know are we supposed to transcribe it cuz there's no vid for it. The Johnny B Goode that you play later on in the more intermediate songs is obviously not the one you mean. Right?

Johnny B Goode has simple chords and chord changes and will suit beginners - as will hundreds of similar rock 'n' roll songs. [I've just made a post with chords for Oh Boy for example] The simple version for beginners uses A, D and E major chords - all open. The intermediate version in the video shows the song with: 1] the riff / solo / lead part (not beginner stuff) 2] the song using barre chords, not open, and in the originally recorded key of Bb (not beginner stuff).

Thanks Close2u for the info. I will try the chords you suggest and of course I will have to sing with this. My singing is good for a joke!

Overall Johnny B. Goode is pretty easy to transcribe if you know the chords. But the fact that the original is in a different key made it tough for me. Singing along didn't sound all that wrong to me when I started on E and changed to A (I hope this is not a totally bad sign ), but where I wanted to change to D I knew there was something wrong. At least I got right where to change to a different chord right away. So, I'll book this as a success nonetheless, considering that I'm kind of tone-deaf.

Here's a link to the stage 2 chords (Dm, Am and Em) in mp3 format, for those who asked. Cheers for the lessons Justin

When listening to the ear training exercises, they seem to be playing a double speed. Any one having this problem?

I am having problems distinguishing E and A chords any advice in how to distuguish between them?
When I play them on my guitar I can tell the difference but on the excercises which I play through my speakers I can't.

Listen to the bass note, the A chord sounds higher in pitch because the lowest note is higher then the lowest note on the E chord.

Hi Justin! I think the answers to this lesson are wrong, cause they look absolutely the same as those from BC-118 • JUSTIN training exercises (it's even the same page on your website) Could you fix them please? I would like to check if my answers are correct! Thanks in advance!
