Intermediate Foundation (Grade 4)

2020 was all about updating and improving the Beginner Course! 2021 is all about the Intermediate Modules - and I've got some awesome stuff in store for you! :) It's a massive project, and it'll take most of the year!

First, I'm working hard on updating the Grade 4 material. It'll be a series of modules with lesson plans to work through each one. Like the Beginner Course, each lesson will come with a set practice routine!

The big news is that there's also a pathway for those with some experience. If you want to improve a specific skill, you'll be able to do it without following the whole thing. I'm super excited! Make sure you're signed up for the newsletter and follow my Instagram account to get all the latest. It's all happening!

Essential Modules

The Intermediate Foundation update will have six essential modules:

  1. Chord Study

  2. Technique

  3. Rhythm Maestro - new lessons out every 2 weeks!

  4. Major Scale Meastro - new lessons out every 2 weeks!

  5. Groove Study

  6. Transcribing

There will be further optional (but recommended) modules on Blues Lead, Rock Rhythm, Acoustic Explorer, Songwriting/Production, and Tone Quests. I might end up adding more - or changing this a bit!

New Lessons

As of March 2021, I have the scripts done for over half the Grade 4 modules. I'm in busy production mode, trying to get everything filmed, edited, written, and live! I'm going as fast as I can. Remember that donations allow me to hire more people and get things done faster! :)

The "Classic Foundation" (released 2010!)

The idea here is that you complete the five "Foundation" stages which will give you all the basic techniques and skills you need to start work on the Style Modules, where you will put all those skills into practice! The reason being that I guess everybody wants to start working on different things at this level, not everyone wants to do jazz or thrash metal! So this way, you get the skillset and then apply it to styles you like.

Many of the lessons here are things that are already around the site but I know many of you struggle with getting the order right (and I would have too!!) the big deal here is giving you some structure to the huge amount of things there are to learn on our beautiful instruments!

Intermediate Foundation 1

In this first stage of the Intermediate Foundation, we are looking at many of the concepts that we will be exploring through the other stages as we continue, Barre chords, 16th note rhythms, The Major Scale, Notes on the fingerboard - all sorts of interesting stuff. You should find these Intermediate Foundation stages take a little longer than the beginner ones did. There is more to do and many of the things will take longer to explore properly. Take your time and do it well - there is no hurry here! Hope you enjoy it!

Intermediate Foundation 2

This stage we are looking to consolidate the E Shape Barre by learning a couple of extended shapes, looking at basic Improvisation techniques for the Major Scale. We're also looking at playing scales with a metronome, how to and why. We continue looking at 16th note rhythms with a look at accenting notes and get stuck into some basic note reading in the open position. Then there are some songs and transcribing and ear training to do. As before, lots to do, so go get stuck in!
