Mary Jane's Last Dance by Tom Petty
How I missed this jem of a song for so long I don't know and I'm a little embarrassed that it took Tom Pettys death to discover so much of his music, including this song, which I now adore. It's such a tasty groove and is just such a good feeling to play along with the recording and jam along - loads of fun.
The rhythm is for most people liekly to be the hardest bit, but as usual the key is to start simple, get a solid foundation on an easy pattern and then start to build in some of the muting and feel that can only be built when you're totally solid on the basic version shown below.
Note though that real beginners could apply many easier strum patterns to it without detriment to the song, it's so cool you can even change the feel up and the song still works, so don't be afraid to experiemnt a bit too!
