Larry Carlton Interview
Larry Carlton was one of those guitar players that I discovered in my late teens, and it changed my life! He has the perfect touch, plays real simple things that are just the perfect notes and perfect phrasing, and then can burn it up and play some incredibly difficult fast passages that really mean something. The first time I heard his album "Last Night" I was totally floored and spent months transcribing as much of the solos as I could...
So it was great honour to be allowed some time to interview him, exclusively for this web site. And I got to play one of his most famous tracks "Room 335" with him at the end of his clinic. I was smiling for weeks. And he is such a nice guy, real friendly and unassuming, it really was a pleasure to meet and hang out with him a bit.
I was a bit nervous for this interview and forgot many of the questions that I had wanted to ask (funny how meeting your hero's can do that to ya!), I had them written down but put the paper on the floor, and then forgot them all! So it may not be the most insightful interview ever BUT he really enjoyed doing the clinic too and may be coming back to do some more, and I hope that I will be able to meet him again and find out a bit more about the things he practiced and some of his masterful tricks!
Thanks to Guitar Getaways and The Guitar Institute for organising the clinic and inviting me to participate.
Don't forget to check out his web site too www.larrycarlton.com where he has some awesome lessons (on Truefire). I bought the DVD set myself, and there are some amazingly cool tricks on them!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
