Watch me interview my long-time guitar hero: Larry Carlton.

Larry Carlton is an American guitarist who built his career as a studio musician with artists such as Steely Dan and Joni Mitchell. He has been a member of the Crusaders jazz fusion group and the smooth jazz band Fourplay and is an incredible solo musician.

The first time I heard his album "Last Night," I was floored and spent months transcribing the solo! Big thanks to Guitar Getaways and The Guitar Institute for organizing & inviting me to participate in this clinic.

😅 I was a bit nervous for this interview and forgot many of the questions I had wanted to ask. Funny how meeting your hero can do that to you!

Carlton is one of those guitar players I discovered in my late teens, and it changed my life! We got to jam one of his most famous tracks, "Room 335," at the end of his clinic. Safe to say, I was smiling for weeks. :)

In this video, we discuss all things guitar and how Carlton's inspiration started with his mom playing the acoustic guitar. His fascination with the instrument began when he was only four years old!

Carlton has the perfect touch when it comes to guitar playing. He plays real simple things that are just the ideal notes and perfect phrasing. Then, he burns it up and plays some challenging, yet meaningful fast passages. Lots to learn from this legend!
