Module 11: Sus Fingerstyle
This lesson should be loads of fun for you all. We’re really getting into some creative stuff here. For this lesson, I want you to let go and let loose because rather than just learning a bunch of new chords and techniques this time, we’re going to focus on actually making music.
Don’t be scared, though! Trust me - it’s much better to start learning and thinking about this stuff sooner than later. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to wait until you’re more advanced before you start messing around with different sounds or even writing your own music - and it's a super fun thing to get into.
In this lesson, we’ll be learning:
- How to explore chords
- Sus chords
- Fingerstyle playing
Let’s dive in!
It’s time to break some of the rules you’ve been taught (by me). Exploring chords is a great way to discover new sounds and feels on your guitar.
Beginner Sus Chords
Sus chords are neither major nor minor, but they offer a ton of variety - plenty for you to play around with!
Shifting The F
Are you still struggling with your full F barre chord? If so, it might not be your fault (at least not entirely)!
Re-Active Listening ™
When you're improvising, it’s easy to stress over the theory behind what sounds good with what. Instead, we’re just going to listen for the best sounding combinations.
Finger Style First Steps
Finger style involves plucking individual strings in a chord rather than strumming them. We’ll get more into this in Grade 3, but this will get you started.
Happy Birthday Finger Style
For your first foray into finger style, we’re going to be learning the “Happy Birthday” song - a classic unlike any other!
Songs for Module 11
This lesson we have songs for easy fingerstyle and also songs that have Sus chord riffs!
Introduction To Dice Songwriting
We’re going to write a song together from start to finish in just 30 minutes… this should be interesting!
