I woke up this morning to find that the great Lemmy Kilmister has passed away. Motorhead was one of my favourite bands back in the day, and as you can imagine, Lemmy’s anarchistic spirit really resonated with teenage me. He lived his life to the max and truly embodied everything Rock n’ Roll stands for.

In honor of Lemmy, I’ve done a full lesson on Ace of Spades, the iconic Motorhead song, from start to finish, including the solo. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to do a Motorhead lesson, but at least we’re here now.

We start off with the bass riff, move into the verses and chorus, and then dive into the solo. I won’t get into too many of the technical details here, but this tune will have you all up and down the fretboard. Don’t be afraid to dig your fingers in on those bends, too. Oftentimes they’ll have you bending a half or a full tone, and it really makes a difference when you get those right.

Beyond that, this is a rock n’ roll song, so give it a little energy! This is one of those songs where precision is less important, but the feel of the song should be pretty intense. As a guitar instructor, I would never *officially* encourage sloppy playing, but sometimes, you’ve just got to play as hard and as fast as you can, the beat be damned!
