The Meters have always been one of my favourite Funk bands and I been playing their songs since my early teens. Leo Nocentelli is one of the all-time great funk masters and you should check out a LOT of Meters recordings.

If you're into funk you'll probably love my Funk Guitar Course!

Watch a lesson from Leo Nocentelli

Check out the additional vids to the right for a lesson from Leo Nocentelli. I found this after I'd done the lesson (of course!) and looks like I got it mostly right - but I still don't hear that G note in the B section riff - but he's obviously playing it here!

Extra Notes

Here are the rhythms - make sure you get them locked in!

Main Riff

D U D U . . D . . . . U D U . U D . . . . . . . D U . U . U . .
1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a

B Section Riff

D . . U D U . U . U . . . . . . D . . U D U D U . . . . . . . .
1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a 1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a

Guitar
For this lesson I'm using my Suhr Classic with pickup selector in position 4 (split bridge humbucker and middle together). The orginal sounds more like a Telecaster to me, but there's still a strange electronic interference at my studio and my tele picks it up too much!

Amp
I'm using the Kemper Profiler for this lesson using the 62 Luxe Reverb profile by M Britt. Had to boost the treble and presence a bit to try to get it more scratchy.

Effects
Just a bit of reverb in the Kemper.
