The Truth About Guitar Tricks vs Justin Guitar | JustinGuitar.com

Man these 'review' sites are winding me up today! It's not like I'm getting all precious about it, and in some ways, I appreciate that this "Tyler S" dude includes my site at all - but it seems many people don't really get how they work and there's no option for me to reply or debate with these sites.

Someone just emailed me and ask about this page and if they were getting paid for recommending Guitar Tricks.

Sites like these make money by recommending sites that pay out money on affiliate links and in this case, they are really driven to recommend sites with good affiliate payouts - pretty much all the pages on the site are doing this. They announce it on their main page at the top, but not on the individual pages.

If you click the links on the page they go to the website url but look after the / and you'll see an affiliate ID.

It's not like Guitar Tricks makes a secret about this kind of marketing, and it's a great and effective tool and I have no beef with them using this kind of thing - the thing that I don't like is that they are hardly unbiased reviews and it's not clear to the reader that they're making money out of their reviews and recommending one product over another.

So it's obvious why Guitar Tricks is so heavily recommended by this guy... against any other site - especially one like mine that has no affiliate program!

So... there's a little moan about affiliate marketing and why it can be a misleading tool used by marketeers!
